Cable Wrap Complete; Reservoir Prepares for Waterproof Coating

Cable wrapping machine

On August 21st, sub-contractor DN Tanks completed the steel cable wrapping and shotcrete application to the exterior of the Forest Park Low Tank Reservoir.  More than 10 miles of cable was used to wrap the reservoir which will add support and reinforce the reservoir's walls.

Upon completion, the 73-foot diameter reservoir will provide additional supply to better serve the current and future water needs of residents living at higher elevations.  The reservoir will also improve water capacity for emergency fire protection.

The next step will be to apply a waterproof coating to the buried portion of the 1.3 million-gallon reinforced concrete reservoir. The reservoir will then be filled with water to full capacity in order to visually inspect for leaks at the base of the structure.

Take a Look Inside!

Nine concrete columns support the roof of the reservoir. Each of the columns is 30 inch in diameter and about 40 foot tall.

The reservoir interior will be disinfected and then the outside of the structure will be covered and compacted with layers of soil and eventually native grasses. The project is on-track for completion in March 2014.
