The Portland Water Bureau is engaged in a public involvement process for the city’s Washington Park Reservoir Improvements Project. Starting in 2016, the city will replace the current upper open reservoir with a 15-million gallon underground reservoir. The new water storage facility will include a publicly-requested water feature on top.
The lower second reservoir will be decommissioned and re-purposed as an overflow and storm water retention tank, including a de-chlorination facility. What goes on top of both sites is what the public is being asked to help decide.
The Water Bureau is seeking public input and feedback about a series of refined design concepts for the two reservoir sites. These concepts were generated with input from a citizens group that includes park users and neighborhood association representatives as well as public comments from an open house held on July 25th. A second open house was held on October 16th. There is still time to give your opinion.
