The public is invited to attend another Community Sounding Board meeting on the city’s Washington Park Reservoir Improvements Project. The meeting is Wednesday, April 30, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church, 1838 SW Jefferson Street, Room 202.
During the meeting, the citizen-member group and public will get a project update and have the opportunity to meet the construction contractor, Hoffman Construction Company, which will begin work on the project in spring 2016.
The Sounding Board is comprised of neighborhood association representatives, park users and Portland Parks & Recreation staff, who are working with the Portland Water Bureau to determine the visual features of the two reservoir sites inside Washington Park.
Since July 2013, the Sounding Board has been providing ideas, advice and critical feedback to the Water Bureau project team and its design engineering consultants on options for water features, amenities, and landscaping of the historic sites.
In addition to the public Sounding Board meetings, the Water Bureau has also held open houses, community briefings, and conducted mailings and website surveys to gather public input and feedback on design concepts.
The Washington Park Reservoir Improvements Project will replace upper Reservoir 3 with a 15-million gallon underground reservoirs and repurpose the decommissioned lower Reservoir 4 to serve as an overflow-storm water retention and de-chlorination facility. In addition, due to a historic landslide – dating back to the original reservoir construction in 1894 – the Water Bureau must take steps to stabilize the hillside.
