April 15, 2013: Flushing in Willamette Park

As part of the Hannah Mason Pump Station construction project, contractors for the Portland Water Bureau need to excavate and expose a section of the 60” Washington County Supply Line (WCSL) that runs under a portion of Willamette Park. Water from the WCSL must be drained to reduce pressure to safely accomplish this work. A short section of the pipe will be isolated, closed and drained.

During the week of April 13, two 50’ hoses will be hooked to a manifold at the manhole in the southeast corner of Willamette Park. The water will be de-chlorinated and drained into the Willamette River. The discharge will be closely monitored to meet the water quality permit requirements. A portion of the jogging path will be closed while the pipe is drained. It will take approximately two days drain. Draining will occur during work hours. There will be a safety perimeter set up around the work zone and that portion of the trail will have signs at both ends.
