Urban Forestry Calendar Team Leader Training: Identification and Protocol Community Events Volunteer training for lead inventory volunteers Parklane Reformed Christian Church; 16001 SE Main Street, Portland OR 97233 REGISTER HERE Thank you for volunteering with Portland Parks and Recreation Urban Forestry! WHAT: Team Leaders guide novice volunteers through scientific data collection to collect species, size, and health data on Portland's park trees. This training is required for all new team leaders. We will go over project goals, basic tree biology, how to identify Portland's most common park trees, inventory protocol, and the tools used to collect data. WHERE: Parklane Reformed Christian Church, 16001 SE Main Street, Portland OR 97233. Please park in the back parking lot. WHEN: Saturday, June 1. Registration will open at 8:30 AM. The training will begin at 9 AM and will end at 2:30 PM, with a break for lunch. Coffee, light breakfast snacks, and lunch will be provided. WHAT TO EXPECT: We will be spending half the day inside and half the day outside in Parklane Park. We will be going over tree identification and inventory protocol and tools. Light breakfast snacks, coffee, and lunch will be provided. Please wear close-toed shoes and dress for the weather as this event will be held rain or shine. Peninsula Park This educational event and skills competition is an excellent way for climbers of all skill levels to learn the latest in safety and climbing techniques. Climbers participate in five ascent events: aerial rescue, belayed speed climb, ascent event/secured footlock, throw line, and work climb. The top four qualifiers are eligible to compete in the Chapter Tree Climbing Championship this fall in Eugene, OR.
