Calendar Building an Accessory Dwelling Unit on your property in Portland. The ADU Class: This class is intended for homeowners interested in building an ADU on their property. For most homeowners, building an ADU is not simple or straightforward--it's essentially the job of being a land developer--- a job that most of us know have ever done, or will likely ever do again. Think of this class as an on-ramp to the process of designing and building an ADU. This class will open your eyes to the spectrum of content that you'll execute and manage in the course of designing and building and ADU. It is intended to make the whole process and project better by helping you understand the ADU design, management, and building process. By the end of the class, you will better understand the design/permit/build process, which will save you significant time and money, and will result in a better product--an ADU that will work well for your particular situation. In the process of designing and building my ADU, I have become passionate about ADUs generally. I am not a general contractor nor an architect trying to pitch my services to you. I am a homeowner and environmental professional with a passion for ADUs and a lot of practical information to share about them. The class is full of extremely high-value information that you can't find anywhere else. You'll Walk Away from the Class Understanding… The design, permitting, and building process Relevant green building concepts, approaches, and certifications Financing, rebates, incentives, cost-saving design/build measures, contracts Resources, references and contacts to help you design and build your ADU (including ADU regulations, local building material sourcing recommendations, a budget sample, contract types and more). http://pdxadu.blogspot.com/p/adu-class-for-homeowners.html 2017-09-16 09:00:00.0 2017-09-16 17:00:00.0 0 0 0

Event Calendar Aquifer Adventure A free pirate-themed groundwater festival Portland Water Bureau Canoe Launch, NE 166th at and Airport Way, Portland, OR, 97230 (follow signs for parking) What do pirates and groundwater have in common? Buried treasure! This question is asked every year at Aquifer Adventure, a family festival that celebrates both pirates and an important drinking water resource. This annual event, now in its 14th year, focuses on groundwater protection and water conservation, including tips and tools for use at home as well as fun activities for all ages. Co-sponsored by the Portland Water Bureau and the Columbia Slough Watershed Council, Aquifer Adventure will be held on Saturday, September 16, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be hands-on activities including a treasure hunt and aquifers made of ice cream. Participants can also enjoy the wooded trail along the Columbia Slough before joining a canoeing tour of the slough. With its long reach of water trails, mountain views, and diverse wildlife, the slough is a real asset to the community. Groundwater from the Columbia South Shore Well Field is an important part of the drinking water supply for Portland and the metro region. Groundwater helps meet higher summer water demands and provides drinking water during emergencies or when Portland's primary water source, the Bull Run Watershed, is not available. The well field also makes Portland's water system resilient in the face of drought and climate uncertainty. Aquifer Adventure is held each year at the Portland Water Bureau canoe launch at NE 166th Avenue and Airport Way in Portland. All activities at the event are free, and food items will be available for purchase. Pirate dress, pirate lingo, and pirate swagger are highly encouraged. Calendar True Nature - an open house with Environmental Education Learn about PP&R's new, intergenerational program: True Nature! Mt Tabor Park, Picnic Area B - on the east side of the park just off of SE East Tabor Drive This fall, Portland Parks Recreation is kicking off a new intergenerational program called True Nature. At this open house, you will get a chance to meet staff (nature mentors), explore nature, find out more about the program, and ask lots of questions! Here's the game plan (subject to change) 3:00 - Welcome! We'll have something engaging happening when you arrive! Think FUN.3:15 - Opening circle3:30 - Explore nature with a scavenger hunt3:45 - Return and share some stories4:15 - Kids will go off and explore more, or play a game Meanwhile, adults will learn more about the program and ask questions4:45 - Closing circle and farewells This program will have fall, winter, and spring sessions. It is for children, ages 3-12, and one grown up that is a part of their life! Guided by trained adult mentors, the True Nature program will foster connections to place, others, and self. Classes meet at Mt. Tabor Park, rain or shine. With this class, the learning is in the doing - with hands on exploration, stories, and song. This program deliberately connects children of various ages to a very personal experience in nature. One adult in a child's life (parent/relative/nanny/friend) participates, and is the at-home mentor. This village building model is intentional... the wide range of child ages (3-12) creates role models for kids - we know younger children look up to older children. It is our True Nature to be at peace. It is our True Nature to express our gifts. It is our True Nature to be in harmony with the Earth. Find out more about this program on our website!
