The Wonder Woman Awards take place in March/April to recognize women at the City of Portland for being a role model, mentor or generally exceptional City employee. This is a Women's History Month activity, where nominations are received during this month and each person nominated receives recognition. There is not one special award in this category. All women nominated are recognized.
The WE Persist Awards are at the same time, but is a special "standout" type of award that is jury selected based on the 2018 Women's History Month Theme that honors women who fight all forms of discrimination against women. Employees would nominate a woman at the City of Portland who embodies the theme and portrays inspirational persistence, and that fight all forms of discrimination against women and girls. This woman may not only be fighting against sexism, but also against the many intersecting forms of discrimination faced by women including discrimination based on race and ethnicity, class, disability, sexual orientation, veteran status, and many other categories. This may be someone who does this on a daily basis at work, or in their personal lives.
The Wonder Woman Awards Committee will select the awardee(s) (potentially one or more awardees vs. everyone nominated) based on the description above and will notify all nominees of their nomination and will find out who has been selected at the Awards Ceremony on April 3.
