Indigenous PDX seeks to facilitate cultural connection and professional advancement of self-identified Indigenous City of Portland employees. We honor and center those who have called Portland home since time immemorial, while celebrating the diversity and resilience of Portland’s Indigenous community members. We engage in systems change and City policy development that supports Indigenous staff at the City of Portland as well as the community as a whole. Wherever possible, we will build alignment with community based organizations
This affinity group was formed by and for Alaska Natives and American Indians of North America, however we welcome anyone with Indigenous ancestry from the Americas. We recognize blood quantum as a tool of the colonial oppressor, so we do not require members to be enrolled tribal members. This is not intended as a space for allies to learn about Native culture, although we may strategically host broader educational events to promote cultural awareness.
