Each month the BOEC Employee Recognition Committee (ERC) distinguishes a BOEC employee for exemplary performance or action as the Employee of the Month.
July’s Employee of the Month is Chelsea, an 8 year veteran with the bureau who was recently promoted to Emergency Communications Supervisor. Prior to her promotion, Chelsea was working a late shift, assigned to the Fire Tactical Radio Operator (TRO) position, processing 9-1-1 calls when she was not assigned to Fire tactical duties. Incoming 9-1-1 calls and radio activity on the operations floor was relatively heavy when she answered a 9-call. Chelsea didn’t know ahead of time what this call would be about, but she answered it knowing that she would be able to process it. The caller was the victim of a heinous crime, and suffering from life threatening injuries. Though extremely difficult, Chelsea was able to professionally and compassionately reassure the victim while gathering critical safety information for responding police, fire and medical personnel. The 9-1-1 call ended when those responders arrived to assist the victim. For Chelsea and the other BOEC employees on duty that morning, new 9-1-1 calls of unknown circumstances were waiting to be processed.
Chelsea was praised by the investigating officers and her co-workers for her compassionate and expert handling of this extremely traumatic call. Her commitment to public safety, BOEC, and her profession is highly valued by the city, her co-workers, and the community we serve.
