911 Bureau of Emergency Communications

Partners in Public Safety. Call 911: Save a Life, Report a Fire, Stop a Crime.

July 2017 Employee of the Month

Mickie is our BOEC July Employee of the Month

Mickie was nominated for both her calltaking and her fire dispatch knowledge, skills and abilities. Mickie has been in training since she was hired. First as a call taker, then as a police dispatcher and now as a fire dispatcher. It generally takes 16-18 months to become certified at all positions.

Mickie became interested in becoming an Emergency Communications Dispatcher after serving on a Grand Jury and hearing the 9-1-1 tapes presented. Shortly after that she applied for and was one of nine people hired in March of 2016 as an Emergency Communications Dispatcher Trainee.

On May 19th, Mickie took a call of a person on cardiac distress. Using Emergency Medical Dispatch protocols, Mickie calmly provided CPR instructions, talked the caller through step by step, helping them keep rhythm, offering words of encouragement and praise.  The medics notified us after that the patient was breathing again and would be transported thanks to Mickie's call taking skills and her calming attitude and compassion.

That same day while in fire training, Mickie took on a residential fire with a possible trapped victim.  Along with her coach she worked through some of the initial confusion, got additional resources started, addressed location changes and provided all the available information to crews.  C7 even wrote afterward that they did a good job!  Please congratulate Mickie on a job well done.
