The City of Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services is continuing our work to repair and replace critical sewer and stormwater infrastructure. Environmental Services will continue to provide information and updates on construction schedules and activities during the COVID-19 emergency.

Environmental Services (BES) has successfully completed sewer construction on the Slabtown Sewer Replacement Project located in NW Portland (between NW Thurman and Overton and 12th to 21st). The project repaired or replaced 8,400 feet of sewer mains in streets, some of which were more than 115 years old and deteriorating due to age. Taking these actions now will help protect the public and the environment by reducing the possibility of costly breaks, leaks, blockages and sewage releases to homes, businesses and streets.

Project Accomplishments

By coordinating with many property owners, businesses, and residents in the project area, Environmental Services completed the following work:

• Replaced and upsized 8,400 feet of mainline public sewer pipes that were more than 115 years old.
• Repaired, replace, built 1,500 LF of service connections to the main sewer line
• Repaired, replaced, and built 50 manholes throughout the project area
• Installed 45 new ADA ramps throughout the project area

A Note of Appreciation

The Slabtown Sewer Repair Project was a major construction project that spanned nearly six years of design and construction. Environmental Services knows it has meant significant inconveniences for businesses and the many people living, working, and visiting in the project area. We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we worked through the unique technical challenges of the neighborhood (both above and below ground) to complete the necessary public sewer repairs.
