Updated November 4, 2020

The City of Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services is continuing our work to repair and replace critical sewer and stormwater infrastructure. Environmental Services will continue to provide information and updates on construction schedules and activities during the COVID-19 emergency.

Environmental Services – your sewer and stormwater utility – is continuing construction on the Sunnyside North Green Street and Sewer Project. Almost all the new sewers have been installed or repaired on the project and the contractor is now working on the remainder of the project that will reduce the flooding in the neighborhood. The green street planters, stormdrains, and ADA ramps are all that remain before final restoration of the streets.

Green Street Planting

Environmental Services’ Revegetation team will be planting in the green streets this Fall and Winter. In the coming weeks, you may see crews weeding and preparing the planters before new plants come in.

The city is responsible for looking after green streets as they are an important part of the city's stormwater collection system. Professional landscape crews visit green streets to make sure they are functioning. Activities may include trimming the vegetation and removing weeds when necessary, removing and disposing of sediment, picking up trash and debris, clearing curb openings, and watering during the first two years the plants are getting established.

Community members can help keep green streets working and looking good in between city visits by becoming a Green Street Steward.

Construction Schedule

Crews will be finalizing the remaining small patches of paving and repairs, as well as the ADA ramps all over the neighborhood in the next few weeks.Crews will be finalizing the remaining small patches of paving and repairs, as well as the ADA ramps all over the neighborhood in the next few weeks.

What to Expect During Construction

  • Noise, Vibration and Dust are significant and will disrupt normal neighborhood activity.
  • Traffic Delays will occur in and near the work area. Please observe traffic control signs and follow the directions of flaggers.
  • Driveway Access to your property will be maintained, but construction may impact normal use of your driveway or entrance to your
  • business.
  • On-street parking will be restricted in and near the work zones to create a safe work environment and to stage equipment and materials.
  • Sewer, water, and other utilities will remain in service during construction.
  • Equipment Storage: Some equipment and materials may be stored on your street or nearby streets overnight.
  • Schedule Changes and Inactivity: construction schedule is subject to change due to a variety of factors, including conditions underground,
  • subcontractor schedules, and availability of materials. These same variables may cause periods of inactivity between construction phases.
