The City of Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services is continuing our work to repair and replace critical sewer and stormwater infrastructure. Environmental Services will continue to provide information and updates on construction schedules and activities during the COVID-19 emergency.
Updated December 23, 2020
Construction continues on a project to improve the public sewer system in several Portland neighborhoods. The Hollywood-Grant Park Phase Two Sewer Repair Project includes repair and construction of 3,000 feet of public sewer pipes, 196 feet of sewer service laterals, and several maintenance access holes and sewer cleanouts. These improvements will protect public health and the environment by reducing the possibility of sewage releases to homes, businesses, and streets.
Sewer repairs are located in various neighborhoods, including Grant Park, Rose City Park, and Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhoods.
In general, work hours are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and Saturdays as needed. This schedule may change due to a variety of factors, including weather, conditions underground, availability of materials and labor, and other factors.
Beginning the week of January 4, 2021, crews will repair sewer mainline pipes, install sewer cleanouts, and repair public service laterals in public sewer easements that are located in-between properties north of NE Wasco Street, between NE 47th and NE 49th avenues.
Crews will be using the Cured-In-Place-Pipe lining process (CIPP) to repair the sewer mainline and a combination of trenchless and open trench excavation methods to repair and replace public sewer pipes, sewer cleanouts, and sewer service laterals. The methods will vary from property to property depending on many factors, including pipe conditions, soil types, slope, access challenges, and other factors.
Crews will back fill pits or trenches with sand or gravel and compact it before applying temporary paving. Crews will work directly with individual property owners affected by the project to determine what restoration will take place on private property after work is completed.
