Fanno Trail re-opens at SW 82nd Avenue
Environmental Services has completed repairing a leak in the Fanno Pressure Sewer and has re-opened the Fanno Trail near the Portland Golf Club. A portion of the pressure sewer runs below the Fanno Trail.
The city finished constructing the sewer last fall and activated it in November 2010. On July 22, sewage began surfacing along the Fanno Trail at SW 82nd Avenue and the city closed the trail.
The city stopped pumping through the pressure sewer, excavated at the site of the leak to expose the pipe, and replaced a 15-foot section of steel pipe that had leaked.
Repair crews finished restoring the surface and re-opened the trail yesterday. A contractor will soon restore vegetation at the repair site, but that work will not close the trail.
The city is inspecting other pipe sections before re-activating the pressure sewer.
The Bureau of Environmental Services provides city residents with programs to protect water quality and public health, including wastewater collection and treatment, sewer construction and maintenance, stormwater management, and stream and watershed restoration.
