Possible sewage release to Willamette in downtown Portland
Sewage released from a private business in downtown Portland this afternoon drained into a storm sewer that drains to the Willamette River. The sewage release occurred near SW 10th and Morrison at about 12:30 p.m. today.
An unknown amount of sewage entered catch basins that drain to the city’s storm sewer system and it’s possible that some of the sewage flowed into the river through a storm outfall pipe on the west side of the river just south of the Hawthorne Bridge.
As a precaution, people should avoid contact with the water in that area today and tomorrow.
