Tryon Creek - Highway 43 Culvert Retrofit and Stream Enhancement
Environmental Services and the Oregon Department of Transportation worked together to improve fish passage through the culvert on Tryon Creek under Highway 43. The partners constructed the project in summer 2008. The work included (a) retrofitting the baffles inside the culvert, and (b) elevating the stream at the downstream end of the culvert to create a swim-in condition. This project improves access for fish to the Tryon Creek State Natural Area, one of the largest contiguous high quality habitats in the city.
