Hug a Tree, Break a Record!

Portland broke one Guinness World Record last week with over 600 people floating on the Willamette River in a human chain.  What a great way to celebrate the cleaner Willamette River, now that combined sewer overflows are greatly reduced and Portlanders are taking other actions to protect our rivers and streams.

Let's keep on a roll breaking records! Hoyt Arboretum and Treecology need your help to break the world record for tree hugging. This is a fun way to celebrate Portland's commitment to trees.  Over the last five years, nearly 50,000 new trees have been planted in Portland--many through Environmental Services’ Urban Tree Canopy Program and the organizations and volunteers who partner with us.  Trees help soak up the rain, cool our neighborhoods, protect our streams, and save money by keeping stormwater out of our sewer pipes.  Good reasons to give them a hug!
