Breaking Ground on a Safer Wildwood Trail Crossing
March 21, 2019
Today, Nick was excited to attend the groundbreaking of the Barbara Walker Crossing, a new footbridge across West Burnside on Forest Park’s famous Wildwood Trail.
The project is a public-private partnership led by the Portland Parks Foundation. Other partners include Portland Parks & Recreation, the Portland Bureau of Transportation, and Metro.
Construction will begin this month and the project is expected to be completed in September 2019. When complete, the crossing will safely carry 80,000 hikers and runners every year and bring a new dimension of fun and beauty to the magnificent Wildwood Trail.
Special thanks to Commissioner Chloe Eudaly, Metro Councilor Sam Chase, Parks Director Adena Long, Portland Parks Foundation Executive Director Randy Gragg, and the many supporters who attended today’s celebration.
