About OMF Cross-Functional Teams

OMF has initiated the use of cross-functional teams for certain one-time and ongoing projects. Many projects in OMF involve a range of staff from different OMF bureaus and divisions. The Core Leadership Team encourages cross-functional and collaborative work as a normal part of business, but only requires tracking, monitoring, and reporting by those efforts formally established as cross-functional teams.

The hallmarks of a cross-functional team project include:

  • The team has an identified sponsor(s) from the OMF Core Leadership Team who provides the necessary committment and oversight of top management to ensure a successful outcome.
  • The project is high profile, has a large impact, and/or reflects long-standing efforts.
  • The project involves staff from different OMF bureaus and divisions who have different skill sets and/or positions.
  • The project team’s level and scope of authority for decision-making is explicitly stated.

The overall goal for using cross-functional teams is to develop more cohesion, coordination, and synergy among staff in OMF bureaus and divisions. This in turn leads to more seamless, comprehensive customer service where a "problem" or solution is looked at from all angles and where OMF employees are more cognizant of seeing the interconnectivity in their work.

Reporting and Accountability

Central Coordination – Policy Team (Celia Heron) coordinates the cross functional teams' tracking, monitoring, and reporting.

Project Charter – Each cross-functional team will have a project charter describing the purpose, membership, decision-making authority, schedule, deliverables, team members, etc.

Project Status Report – On a quarterly basis, all cross-functional teams will provide written project status reports. Selected teams will report out verbally at Extended Leadership Team meetings.

Cumulative Status Report – The Policy Team will be responsible for producing a quarterly roll up to reflect the cumulative status of OMF's cross-functional teams.

Summary Report – The Policy Team will be responsible for producing a quarterly summary report of the current status and next steps of all cross-fiunctional teams
