June 2014
During the design phase of the project, it was determined that four trees next to the courts would need to be removed. Two trees are located where the inflation unit needs to be sited; the canopy of these trees will interfere with the area of the cover and pruning of the trees to accommodate the cover would impact their health. Leaf drop trapped between the cover and the fence is also a concern. Two additional trees will be removed to allow construction of the new ramp providing ADA access to the tennis courts. Tree removal requires tree replacement. There will be nine new trees planted near the Tennis Center and Buckman Field.

January 2014
Permit drawings have been submitted and are being reviewed by the Bureau of Development Services (BDS).

July 2013
PP&R hired Richard Brown Architect to lead a team of design professionals to provide construction drawings for the project. Yeadon Fabric Domes was selected through a competitive process to furnish and install the air supported structure.

The Portland Tennis Center was acquired by PP&R in 1973. It is adjacent to Buckman Field and Benson High School in northeast Portland. The Tennis Center includes four indoor courts and eight outdoor courts. There is a demand for additional indoor tennis courts in Portland. The budget for the project is $1.15 million and the funding is from Park System Development Charges.
