Project Update - September 2019
Construction for seismic improvements at Multnomah Arts Center (MAC) is now completed. Construction to provide ADA access to the cottages at MAC will start the week of September 16, 2019, with expected completion in December 2019.
Classes in the cottages during November and December are scheduled to run. Starting January 2020, all programming at MAC will be fully accessible. During construction, MAC’s lower west parking lot will initially be closed to the public. We apologize for this inconvenience, but it will allow the pavement demolition and concrete work to occur safely and efficiently. We aim to reopen the parking lot once construction allows.
Thanks to funding from the Parks Replacement Bond, Multnomah Arts Center (MAC) will receive seismic and ADA improvements. In order to make the best use of these limited funds, feasibility studies were completed in Phase 1 of the Bond to help define the scope of work for the two projects. In Phase 2, design and construction on these improvements will be completed.
Seismic improvements were focused on creating conditions for safe egress in the event of seismic activity. Work included installing bracing in the roof, replacing skylights, and rebuilding one wall of the auditorium.
ADA improvements will improve access to the cottages at MAC, which are used by PP&R for community arts classes and other programs.
