Purpose: The Alliance for Safer Communities (ASC) is the Queer/LGBTQ+ community advisory council to PPB, and was established originally as the Sexual Minorities Round Table (SMRT) in 1995, in response to Queer Community anger about the harassment of gay men by PPB officers. ASC is an advocacy and public education forum. It continues to focus on providing a respectful space for honest and sometimes difficult conversations regarding the impact of law enforcement and other public policies on the Queer Community. Members of the Queer Community meet with PPB representatives, as well as other functionaries in local government who are concerned about the health and welfare of the Queer Community, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
