Culturally specific councils are not a legal public body and do not make decisions for the city or Police Bureau, and therefore, are not mandated to comply with public meeting requirements. These advisory groups are comprised of all volunteers and decide what specific information they want the Bureau to publish on their website on their behalf. The Portland Police Bureau does not select members or provide any direction or leadership to these councils. These councils are a testament to the Police Bureau's commitment to community outreach and inclusion of various communities, including marginalized communities. PPB recognizes these advisory groups are not a comprehensive and thorough representation of diverse demographics and strives to continue outreach efforts in an attempt to engage all the communities we serve.
