On the morning of February 9, 1983, a resident near the intersection of N Hereford and Lombard Street discovered the victim lying naked in the parking lot of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. The victim, 25 year-old white male, Elamari Magdud, had died due to homicidal violence. His clothing had been scattered throughout the crime scene.
Elamari was a University of Portland student from Libya who lived nearby. He was studying machine design. It was reported that those who knew Elamari described him as having a drinking problem. Elamari Magdud was last seen leaving the Spinning Wheel Tavern at closing time that morning. There had been a large fight in the parking lot of the Portsmouth Club at approximately 1:00 am that night involving a large number of people.
