(February 17, 2016) Portland Sunday Parkways and presenting sponsor Kaiser Permanente have announced the 2016 dates for these signature family-friendly events. Portland Sunday Parkways are all about opening streets and connecting neighborhoods for Portlanders of all ages to bike, walk, run, roll, and enjoy healthy activities right in their own communities.
Sunday Parkways routes showcase low-traffic streets called ‘neighborhood greenways’ that people can enjoy all year long for their own bicycling and walking trips. Transportation Commissioner Steve Novick said Sunday Parkways “connects our neighborhoods and inspires people to try biking and walking for fun, health and transportation. After trying Sunday Parkways, Portlanders often add biking and walking to their daily lives.”
This year, a new route includes a foray into the growing City of Milwaukie and introduces participants to the biking and walking paths on the new Sellwood Bridge. “Sunday Parkways is a unique event for folks to discover and explore a neighborhood in the more intimate way that walking and biking allows,” said Milwaukie Mayor Mark Gamba. “Milwaukie is excited to welcome people from across the metro region to come explore our cool little city and some of what it has to offer.”
