Traffic Advisory: Two lanes of MLK Blvd remain closed through today after 5-alarm blaze

(Aug. 9, 2013) – Travel along four blocks of NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will remain restricted to one lane in each direction through the evening commute and possibly through the weekend, the Portland Bureau of Transportation announced.

The restrictions have been requested by the Portland Fire Bureau to allow firefighters and investigators to access the site of the blaze that destroyed an under-construction apartment complex early Thursday morning.  The site is onNE Martin Luther King Jr. BoulevardbetweenNE Monroeand Morris streets. The two travel lanes adjacent to the site on the westside of MLK Boulevard are closed.

Travel lanes on the eastside ofMLK Boulevardallow one lane of travel in each direction from south ofNE Cook StreettoNE Stanton Street.   Left turns are not allowed in either direction along that stretch.

Alternate routes are available on NE 7th Street and the one way streets ofN Williams Avenue andN Vancouver Avenue.   Travelers should expect delays, exercise patience and are advised to use alternate routes.

In addition, the single block ofMonroe Streetadjacent to the fire-damaged construction site atMLK Boulevardalso will remain closed.
