Sunday Parkways comes to SE Portland this Sunday

A family enjoys walking and biking on Sunday ParkwaysCelebrate a warm August Sunday by participating in the Portland Bureau of Transportation’s Portland Sunday Parkways in SE Portland on August 25th, 11 am – 4 pm.

Portland Sunday Parkways is about opening streets and connecting neighborhoods. It’s a series of free community events opening the city's largest public space – its streets – for people to walk, bike, roll and discover active transportation. The August 25th event in SE Portland will show off neighborhood greenways, the amazing views from top of Mt.Tabor and some of Portland’s beautiful parks.  The route is 9 miles of auto traffic-free streets with no start or end.

Green Spot, presented by the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, is a new feature at Portland Sunday Parkways. Six Green Spot landmarks along the Sunday Parkways route will showcase elements of a healthy, connected neighborhood. SE Sunday Parkways riders who stop at a Green Spot will learn about solar, accessory dwelling units, home energy efficiency, composting and recycling, local sharing economy, and food and garden options. Kids and adults can collect stickers and win prizes. The six Green Spots can be seen on the SE Sunday Parkways route map.

Don’t forget there is one more Sunday Parkways after the southeast date in Southwest, September 29th.

Also, Sunday Parkways needs volunteers, is always interested in having local vendors and community groups participating, and is greatly appreciative of any donations. To find out more about these opportunities, visit www.PortlandSundayParkways.org or call 503-823-7599.

Sunday Parkways is organized by the Portland Bureau of Transportation with its many community partners, including presenting sponsor Kaiser Permanente, and supporting sponsors Universal Cycles, Portland Parks & Recreation, Metro, Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, and Clif Kid.
