Our Mission Statement

Portland aspires to be a welcoming place for all. And everyone benefits when arbitrary barriers are removed.

In 2016, the City of Portland converted over 600 single-stall gender-specific restrooms to all-user restrooms. Our signs show what is inside the restroom, a toilet, not who is allowed in.

Now it is time for public-spirited businesses to step up.

Commissioner Fish has formally challenged the business community to convert 1000 single-stall restrooms by September 1st, 2017. This simple act will benefit everyone, including parents with young children, older adults, people with a disability or an attendant, and the transgender community.

This is more than being a good neighbor; it's good business. Show your customers that everyone is welcome, and join the challenge.
