What Can I Request?
The Portland Archives and Records Center (PARC) is the official repository for the City's inactive and historical records (archives). While most public records are available for on-site review, there are some restrictions for requesting an original. There are a couple basic guidelines for figuring out if you can request an original record sent to you:
- Only red boxes, red folders, and red maps [, , ] are available for check-out. Other record types are either available with the click of your mouse (when you see this icon ) or you will need to make arrangements to see the document at PARC. Copies may be available.
- Is the record from your bureau? If the item is a red box, red folder or a red map, and your bureau's name is listed at the beginning of the title, then you can request the record. Please note: there are some prior bureau arrangements that require you to go through a specific person in your bureau to request some types of records
Please read the formal policies below in the Portland Policy Documents regarding Access to Records Stored at PARC for additional information.
Making a Records Request
Click on the link above and fill out the information requested. The request form opens up in another window, so you may size the Efiles screen and the request form in order to cut-and-paste the requisite information.
If you cannot find the specific record you are searching for, please describe as completely as possible what you are looking for in the request form . A member of the PARC staff will be in touch with you to discuss your request, or you may directly contact PARC at ext. 5-4100.
Please note: Before requesting an Efiles record number that is preceded by a B/ , ex: B/23456, please make sure you aren’t also requesting files from within the box. If your request includes both the files and the box, only the individual files will be sent to you.
