Portland Police Bureau, City of Portland
BS in Social and Behavioral Sciences, Linfield College
Pam Mattys is an Administrative Assistant to one of the four Assistant Chiefs of the Portland Police Bureau. She was born and raised on a small cattle ranch on the Big Island of Hawaii, is of Japanese and Portuguese ancestry, and considers herself to be culturally Hawaiian. She has lived in Portland since 1998 and loves the city, but the cultural transition, particularly in the working world, proved to be very challenging for her. Through career coaching, she has learned skills for dealing with the more-aggressive workplace styles she has encountered here, while still remaining true to her values and who she is. Now she is interested in helping other women who are facing similar challenges. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Linfield College. In her spare time, Pam enjoys cooking, crafts, and relaxing with family and friends.
Before I moved from Hawaii to Oregon and was still trying to figure out my place in the world, someone told me to “be a light for others.” I’ve always had a passion for helping others and showing kindness, just as others have helped me and been kind to me when I’ve needed it. I’m also passionate about my family, the environment, my Hawaiian cultural heritage, animal welfare, cooking, and expressing myself through crafts.
