Welcome
Hello Beautiful people! Happy 2018.
This is going is be a great and exciting year for the City’s African American Network (CAAN). One of the main goals CAAN is setting out to achieve in 2018 is to further build our community and inspire leadership, greatness, and courage in every Black employee who honorably serves the City of Portland. CAAN will continue to advocate for fair employment and equal opportunities through positive relationships with the City and community leaders who value and embrace “diversity” and “racial equity” beyond just awareness.
To achieve these goals, we have created and developed exciting programs, events, and activities. Starting this month, we are joining the army of volunteers in different parts of Portland to "give back" on Martin Luther King (MLK day). We are going to set time aside to uplift those in need and build our community. I know MLK Day is a day off for City employees, but we encourage you to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by connecting with people and organizations making a huge difference within and outside your neighborhood or community.
CAAN is going all out for the 2018 Black History Month. Let the CAAN members say, "Yes" and rejoice! We will be connecting with different Black
community organizations within Portland to make sure our achievements, history and contributions are celebrated and duly recognized. The theme for the 2018 Black History Month is "African Americans in Times of War." We plan to celebrate Black Veterans and implement fun and interesting activities and events that everyone can enjoy.
Please mark your calendars, plan ahead, and set time aside to participate. We have also highlighted a number of professional development opportunities that can help you become the amazing leader you want to be. Take advantage of these amazing opportunities and stay plugged.
Wishing you all the best at all times.
