Emily Volpert, a Communications Coordinator II at the Bureau of Development Services, joined WE Lead in June 2019.
Emily grew up in Northeast Portland and graduated from Grant High School, where she was a member of the Royal Blues Choir and an editor of the Grant Magazine. She received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, where she volunteered in the local Juvenile Justice Center and worked teaching life skills to elementary school girls. During college, she studied abroad in Denmark with a focus in cross-cultural communications.
In her role at BDS, Emily supports communication efforts for all bureau Divisions as well as the Portland Online Permitting System (POPS). She works to create accessible, informative and engaging communications materials to help the public better understand the complex nature of our development bureaus. Emily enjoys working with and learning from the other members of the communications team as they work to produce accessible and effective internal and external videos, graphic resources, promotional materials, service level updates, and website content.
Emily joined WE Lead in 2019 to volunteer her communications, graphic design and event planning experience and to help build community within womxn in the City of Portland. She sees unending potential in the partnership of womxn who work for the City of Portland, and would like to encourage and empower collaboration across the City structure.
Outside of work, Emily is a freelance copywriter and graphic designer for small businesses. She is also an avid babysitter, and loves to hang out with kids of all ages. She volunteers regularly for Portland Public Schools and the Oregon Humane Society. In her free time, Emily enjoys working with plants and flowers, reading, singing, listening to podcasts, going to concerts, doing interior design projects, exploring her growing hometown and travelling. During all other hours, she’s snuggling or adventuring with her dog, Rory Maurice.
