The Paralegal with the City Attorney’s Office performs paralegal duties under the supervision of attorneys conducting legal work on behalf of the City of Portland. Duties include assisting in the investigation and analysis of legal claims and the preparation of cases for trial in conformance with stringent court deadlines and complex legal requirements; drafting legal and trial documents; preparing witnesses; assembling and maintaining a master document index; coordinating the discovery process including, but not limited to, developing privilege logs; supervising document review and production of documents to outside parties and e-discovery; preparing trial notebooks and exhibits; and developing and maintaining new or existing programs that benefit the City. Paralegals work in all litigation areas, including tort, employment, workers’ compensation, construction and land use, as well as in the area of general advice work and public records requests.
