PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Commission Releases Report on Campaign Finance Fund

The Citizen Campaign Commission sent their report(PDF Document, 882 kb) today to the City Council, recommending that the publicly-funded campaign program be continued with modifications.

The City Council created the Campaign Finance Fund in May 2005, to provide public financing for the election of city officials.  As a result, Portland was the first city in our nation to offer public fully-funded campaign financing.  The ordinance also established a volunteer Citizen Campaign Commission in September 2005 to oversee, monitor and evaluate the publicly-funded campaigns for the election of our City officials.

This is the Commission’s first report on the program, and it contains 28 recommendations.  “We gave the program a comprehensive and detailed review based upon the last election cycle.  It accomplished many of its goals and we’re providing strategies for making it better.” stated Commission Chair, Leslie Hildula.
