Prospective Recall Petition Filed; Signature and Cover Sheets Approved for Circulation 7/7/2009

This morning, a prospective petition for the recall of Mayor Sam Adams was filed with City Auditor LaVonne Griffin-Valade.  The City Elections Officer approved the signature and cover sheets for circulation after reviewing the prospective petition.  See information for the prospective recall petition at the following URL: http://www.portlandonline.com/auditor/index.cfm?c=50646&a=253249

Article II, Section 18 of the Oregon Constitution provides that “every public officer in Oregon is subject, as herein provided, to recall by the electors of the state or of the electoral district from which the public officer is elected.” 

Per ORS 249.870, the number of valid Portland voters' signatures required to place the recall on the ballot is 32,183.  The Chief Petitioner must submit at least 32,183 valid signatures to the Auditor no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2009.
