Prospective Recall Petition Filed; Cover and Signature Sheets Approved for Circulation (07/14/2014)

On July 11th, 2014 the City Auditor recieved a prospective petition for the recall of Mayor Charlie Hales. The filed Petition for Recall form includes Chief Petitioner Ray Horton's "reasons for demanding recall." This morning, the City Elections Officer has approved signature and cover sheets for circulation. Article II, Section 18 of the Oregon Constitution provides that "every public officer in Oregon is subject, as herein provided, to recall by the electors of the state or of the electoral district from which the public officer is elected."

Per ORS 249.870, the number of valid Portland voters' signatures required to place the recall on the ballot is 34,921. To qualify the recall petition for the ballot, the Chief Petitioner must submit at least 34,921 valid signatures to the Auditor no later than 5:00p.m. on Thursday, October 9th, 2014.
