Register of Candidates: Special Run-Off Election Filling the Vacancy of Commissioner, Pos. No. 2

On Wednesday, January 8, the Portland City Council passed a resolution authorizing a special elections schedule to fill a vacancy in office that occurred upon the death of former Commissioner Nick Fish. The August 11, 2020 election date is a result of City Charter requirements to fill the remainder of a Commissioner’s term upon vacancy. The Primary nominating election coincided with the City’s regular May 19, 2020 Primary Election. No candidate received a majority of votes at that election, resulting in a required special run-off election for candidates that received the first and second highest number of votes.

Two candidates will appear on the ballot to fill the remainder of the term for Commissioner, Pos. 2 (term ending Dec. 31, 2022).  The candidates are as follows:

Loretta Smith, filed for office nominating petition (filing form)

Campaign finance information: Committee to Elect Loretta Smith

Dan Ryan, filed for office by nominating petition (filing form)

Campaign finance information: Dan Ryan for Portland
