Petition to Review Ballot Title filed in Multnomah County Circuit Court

A petition to review the Ballot Title prepared by the City Attorney for an initiative petition filed to repeal the City's Publicly Funded Campaign System was filed in Multnomah County Circuit Court 9/2/05 by Carol Cushman (League of Women Voters of Portland), Maureen Kirk (Oregon Public Interest Research Group), Sid Lezak, Christopher Smith, Nancy Sussman (Oregon Action), Janice Thompson (Money in Politics Research Action Project).
 
Per the City Elections Manual Published by the Secretary of State's Office: 
 
"After a petition to review a ballot title is filed, the Circuit Court conducts its review. The review of the ballot title by the Circuit Court shall be the first and final review. After reviewing the ballot title the Circuit Court renders its decision and certifies a ballot title meeting the requirements of ORS 250.035 to the city elections official."
 
The City Auditor cannot approve signature sheets for this petition until after the ballot title review process is completed.
