The Bureau of Development Services (BDS) promotes safety, livability, and economic vitality through efficient and collaborative application of building and development codes.
Development review is an evaluation of how land is used and how buildings are designed and constructed. Planners use the Zoning Code as a tool to determine the use of land and characteristics of buildings, while plan reviewers and engineers use Building Codes to determine safe and acceptable construction methods. BDS staff along with other City of Portland Bureau staff are involved with development review.
Link to the City of Portland’s bureau of Human Resources calendar. Each month they offer free courses focused on applying for jobs with the City. Course participants will gain an understanding of the City’s application process.
