Beginning July 31, 2012 the Bureau of Development Services (BDS) will have additional staff available to assist our permit customers in the Development Services Center (DSC) every Tuesday, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. By providing permit related assistance all day Tuesdays, while still assisting customers with general questions after Noon, the Bureau is beginning to rebuild the service level available in the DSC to help customers.
For the past two years, due to budgetary constraints, DSC staffing levels have been limited, and only available to help permit related customers in the morning hours from 8 am - 12 pm, and customers with general questions from 12 -3 pm. Establishing a solid financial foundation for the Bureau while balancing the ability to provide an appropriate level of customer service has been a priority for BDS Director Scarlett and Commissioner Saltzman.
With the moderate economic improvement over the last 12 months and the same projected for the upcoming year, the decision has been made to conservatively begin to bring back staff to address the workload demands. With the recent approval of the FY 12-13 Budget, which included additional DSC positions, it is important to take this first step in returning to pre-recession assistance levels. BDS is looking forward to additional service level improvements across the bureau as the year progresses.
