BDS is continuing work on its budget request for Fiscal Year July 2013 – June 2014. All City bureaus will be required to submit their budget requests on February 4, 2013.
Bureau finance staff has been working on updating financial projections for the next five years. Current projections call for permit revenues to increase slightly in the next year. However, it is uncertain whether one-time monies from the City’s General Fund that BDS received in the current fiscal year (FY 2012-13) will be renewed in FY 2013-14. This would impact our Neighborhood Inspections, Noise, and Land Use programs.
As in past years, BDS is seeking input on its budget from several sources, including employees and stakeholder groups such as the Development Review Advisory Committee. A wide variety of suggestions have been submitted on ways to enhance services, improve efficiency, and better harness technology resources.
We are also meeting with our Budget Advisory Committee (BAC), composed of stakeholders, community members, and BDS staff. The BAC has held three meetings, and is scheduled to meet twice in January.
