2014 Fall Budget Monitoring Process (BuMP)
In addition to its annual budget development process, the City provides at least two opportunities during the budget cycle for bureaus to make adjustments to their adopted budgets. These opportunities (called Budget Monitoring Processes, or BuMPs) allow City bureaus to account for fiscal, policy, and other changes that impact their budgets.
One of the adjustments bureaus can make during BuMPs is to add staff positions. BDS used a BuMP last year to add positions, and has found this to be an effective way to add positions quickly in response to changes in workload, rather than having to wait until the next budget cycle.
As the bureau’s workload has continued to increase, we are once again looking to add staff positions through the 2014 Fall BuMP. These are positions the bureau planned to include in its fiscal year (FY) 2015-16 budget request, but adding these positions sooner will allow the bureau to respond to current workload and service level needs.
BDS Senior Managers are currently reviewing data and will be making decisions in the next few weeks regarding the number of positions to add. BDS will submit its Fall BuMP request on September 29, 2014.
