Recently this year, Environmental Services observed the return of native Coho Salmon to one of our local urban streams that has not been recorded in decades. Go to the link below to see where this occurred…You may be surprised; you may live in or nearby this well-known Portland neighborhood:
Portland has been considered as a leader in implementing strategies that improve urban watershed health. An important aspect of this involves stormwater management at its source. Stormwater runoff can carry toxic pollutants to our streams and creeks. Portland takes a systems approach to this problem by requiring the construction of stormwater treatment facilities on both public and private development projects. This comprehensive approach to stormwater management has proven effective in protecting our natural environment and in turn has contributed in making our communities more appealing and livable.
