You may be aware from past Plans Examiner articles that we are engaging in a comprehensive organizational assessment of the bureau. The assessment will encompass a review of the bureau’s overall health and culture, as well as, its organizational structure, with the goals of strengthening morale and teamwork, enhancing operational effectiveness, and aligning the bureau’s structure with staffing and service delivery goals.
The assessment was prompted by the significant organizational changes BDS has undergone over the last several years as a result of the dramatic swings in the national and local economy. These changes have had significant impacts on us, as well as, our customers.
After reviewing proposals from several firms, we selected The Coraggio Group to conduct the assessment and work with us in implementing change. Coraggio consultants have been meeting with bureau managers and Commissioner Amanda Fritz to plan the project and are now beginning the assessment process, which will consist of individual interviews and focus group meetings with BDS staff. An Advisory Committee composed of staff from throughout the organization will help advise the consultants as they go through the assessment process.
Feedback from the interviews and focus groups will lead to recommendations for changes to strengthen the bureau’s health, culture, and structure and to improve service delivery for customers and the community. This project is expected to take several months to complete and the results will be shared with the bureau, stakeholder groups, and the community.
