In late November 2015, the BDS Organizational Assessment Report from the Coraggio Group, a Portland-based consulting firm, was provided to BDS. The assessment was started in Spring 2015, and the report reflects several months of work by the consultants in assessing the bureau’s health, culture, and organizational structure. The assessment was focused on identifying opportunities to improve service to our customers and the community and create a more healthy and productive workplace for our employees.
The assessment, along with a customer survey, employee workplace survey, and other initiatives and activities, is part of BDS ongoing organizational improvement work after the significant reductions and then expansion the bureau has experienced over the last few years. During this time, we have focused on committing resources and implementing improvements to keep pace with the rebounding economy and growth of development activities in Portland.
The assessment reiterated that we have a group of smart, intelligent and dedicated employees, while also raising a number of areas where we need to make change. The feedback and recommendations from the assessment will feed into actions the bureau can take in the near term, as well as, helping frame the BDS Strategic Plan, which is anticipated to be completed in late Spring 2016.
