As BDS’s workloads continue to grow, we are working collaboratively with the City’s Bureau of Human Resources (BHR) to prioritize and expedite recruitments for our vacant staff positions. In addition, over the last few months we have been working on several fronts to leverage other resources to assist us until we can bring enough permanent staff on board.
- In June, we signed a cooperative agreement with the State Building Codes Division (BCD) to have their certified Plans Examiners take some of our plan review workload. We have been sending batches of plans to BCD for review weekly since early June.
- In early July, we signed a contract with Diversity Workgroup, LLC to help us recruit more effectively from diverse communities. They are assisting us in establishing ongoing relationships with diverse local, regional, and national community and professional organizations representing minority and underrepresented groups. They are also helping us establish long term recruitment strategy efforts.
- In late July, we signed a contract with CMTS, LLC to provide Plans Reviewers, Technicians, and other staff as needed on a temporary basis. This contract runs through December 31, 2016, and so far we have 3 CMTS staff working in our Plan Review and Permitting Services groups.
- We are preparing to solicit bids for larger, longer-term contracts with firms to provide staff to assist us in several areas, including plan review, engineering, inspections, and zoning code administration. We anticipate having contracts in place by mid-October.
These efforts will continue alongside our ongoing work to fill permanent vacancies.
