Construction work is happening in various areas of the city this fall as Environmental Services replaces or repairs aging sewer pipes. These projects will reduce the possibility of sewage releases into homes, streets, rivers, and steams. In addition, green infrastructure – such as green street planters and rain gardens – also plays an important role by filtering pollutants out of stormwater to protect our rivers and streams.
Construction can be frustrating and disruptive, but it is temporary and necessary. You can help keep work crews safe: slow down, use caution, and be patient. Look out for signs and flaggers, and never drive, bike, or walk through closed construction sites. These guidelines apply for construction sites both large and small – from one person doing maintenance work on a storm drain to a large crew working with a 6-ton excavator.
