Willamette Subwatershed Improvement Strategies

Willamette RiverImprovement strategies are categories of actions to improve watershed health. The Willamette Watershed Team is producing Improvement Strategies reports for each of its 27 subwatersheds.

Each subwatershed report recommends watershed improvement actions that would individually and collectively help protect and improve environmental conditions in the subwatershed. The recommended actions reflect the goals and strategies of the Portland Watershed Management Plan (PWMP) and are organized according to these strategies:

  • Stormwater Management
  • Revegetation
  • Aquatic and Terrestrial Enhancement
  • Protection and Policy
  • Operations and Maintenance
  • Education, Involvement, and Stewardship

Recommended actions include building new green streets (streetside planters or vegetated curb extensions), ecoroofs, and rain gardens; planting trees; removing invasive plants and restoring native vegetation. The City of Portland also promotes private stormwater management efforts. Actions that are identified on private property will not be pursued without the full consent and cooperation of affected landowners.
