Recap: Derek Booth Presentation

As part of Ecoroof Month, the City of Portland arranged a number of tours and presentations to complement the Ecoroof Portland event on March 18th.

On Monday, March 14th, the Portland Office of Healthy Working Rivers hosted a visit and brown bag by urban stormwater expert Dr. Derek Booth. Dr. Booth is an internationally recognized expert on urban streams and stormwater, especially the effects of runoff on channel form and function. As a member of the National Academy of Science's recent review of the nationwide NPDES stormwater permitting system, he co-authored the 2008 committee report, Urban Stormwater Management in the United States.

Dr. Booth presented "Treating the Symptoms or Curing the Disease? Stormwater Management in the 21st Century" as part of the River-in-Focus Brownbag Series.  The full video of the presentation is posted on the Rivers Office website. Over 70 people attended the presentation. In addition, Dr. Booth met with staff from the Office of Healthy Working Rivers and Environmental Services for a discussion and tour of the Portland Building ecoroof.

Many thanks to everyone that attended, and especially to the Office of Healthy Working Rivers for coordinating the Dr Booth's visit.
