Portland's wastewater collection and treatment system includes more than 2,500 miles of pipe. About one-third of the pipes are 80 years old or older. Environmental Services is working at sites around Portland repairing or replacing critical sections of sewer pipe that are failing or at risk of failure.
Environmental Services provides information and resources to residents and businesses about the benefits and impacts of sewer and stormwater construction projects in their neighborhoods. Construction can inconvenience neighbors, commuters and businesses, but the benefits of investments like these in the public sewer and stormwater system are long lasting.
Before sewer construction begins, you may see some of the activities listed below in your neighborhood as work crews prepare for the project. These activities typically occur over time, rather than all at once. Choose the links on this page for more information.
